Meet The Drifter: Dean Longdon

Dean Longdon is the sort of drifter who gives you a mix of chaos and clarity. He’s not afraid to throw down big entries that make the crowd collectively hold their breath, but behind the wheel is a methodical mind, always fine-tuning and levelling up. It’s this balance that makes him one to watch as Drift Kings returns to Ford Fair, with Silverstone Circuit ready to host a day of sideways mayhem in August.

Dean’s weapon of choice is a trusty 200SX S14a. Built not just to perform, but to evolve, it’s gone through changes as his driving has developed, and it still delivers when the throttle hits the floor.

Sure, he might be kicking the tail out of a Japanese car at a Ford event, but let’s face it, you don’t see many Cortinas going sideways these days outside of the rallying scene or at a Southend meet. That said, don’t be surprised if a few Blue Oval bruisers muscle their way into the mix at Ford Fair. The Drift Kings competition is all about smoke, style, and surprises, regardless of the badge on the bonnet.

What Got You Into Drifting?

His first taste came courtesy of a Red Letter Day present at Birmingham Wheels, one of those rare moments where a gift experience turns into a full-blown obsession.

What Was Your First Drift Car?

The very same S14a he’s driving now. Dean’s not one to jump between builds, he’s grown with the car and turned it into a proper competition-spec machine over time.

Best Piece of Advice You’d Give Someone Wanting to Drift for the First Time?

“Keep it simple, master the basics, don’t overbuild the car.” Dean’s advice is gold for anyone getting into drifting. Focus on skill first, then upgrade the car as your confidence grows.

What’s the Dream Circuit You’d Like to Drift?

Dean Longdon rattles off a wishlist that would make any drifter jealous: Meihan Sportsland, Ebisu North, and Raleigh International Raceway in Australia. Fast corners, unforgiving walls, and relentless action, exactly his kind of playground.

With an Unlimited Budget, What Car Would You Build for Drifting?

If money was no object, he’d love to pilot something like the Worthouse S15s that James Deane and Piotr Więcek made famous. Or maybe Darren MacNamara’s D-Mac PS13, both proper examples of peak drift engineering.

What’s Your Biggest Accomplishment in Drifting So Far?

A few moments stand out. Getting personally invited back to drive at Silverstone? That’s up there. And winning Tandem Kings at Dorifest with his teammate Tom Huskinson, pure grassroots glory.

What Can We Expect to See From Dean Longdon In the Drift Kings Comp?

Dean’s bringing what he calls “silly obnoxious backies”, the kind where you’re not sure if the car or the driver is coming out in one piece. He knows consistency wins comps, but he’s all about making it entertaining, too. At Ford Fair, with its track time, Ford-only club displays, and the Drift Kings comp in full effect, Dean’s blend of showmanship and skill will be right at home.

What’s on at Ford Fair?

Ford Fair 2025 at Silverstone Circuit is the ultimate celebration of all things Ford, offering a jam-packed day of automotive excitement. With over 4,000 club cars on display, it’s the UK’s largest Ford gathering, featuring everything from classic Escorts to modern STs. Experience the thrill of the UK’s fastest Fords in high-speed track demos, admire pristine builds in the Auto Finesse Street Elite competition, and explore the Retail Village for exclusive deals on performance parts and detailing products. Whether you’re showcasing your own Blue Oval or soaking in the atmosphere, Ford Fair is a must-attend event for enthusiasts.
